An interview with the Chief Road Trip Officer (CRTO):

What are the responsibilities of a CRTO?

I protect idiots from themselves.

How do you do this?

Well, I come from a long line of idiot protectors.  I inherited this trait from my grandfather on my mother's side.  

When did you become the CRTO for this trip?

Well, it all started back in Mayish, when I came up with the idea of the trip which legally makes it my trip in some states.  Now when planning a road trip with my father it is important to set boundaries in the first days.  One is no camping.  I came into this [role as CRTO] on the first day of the trip at a rest stop.

The universe aligned when I issued the first mandate mandate and the rest is history.

What was your first mandate?

The first mandate I issued was RTM 1 - no road trip is complete without at least one drive through experience.  

Shortly followed by RTM 2, I reserve the right to issue any and all RTM as I see fit.

RTM 3 was off topic.  It was no utensils shall be used when eating except at a table.

What is your Favorite Road Trip Mandate?

What is RTM 7?

I retain all veto power over any hitch hikers including, but not limited to, who we pick up, where they ride and whose stuff we have to throw out to make room for them.

Is there any Special training to become a CRTO?

16 years of time spent with my Mom and Dad and knowing they need someone to keep them in line.

Any advice for anyone else wanting to become a CRTO?

Squash all resistance early on in the trip and bring a squirt bottle for negative  reinforcement.

Yes, S2 sleeps a lot in the back seat.

Sorry, Klaus... Even if it only costs 5 euros a night, we are not staying at the Metal Hotel.
