That's right, Bea! We usually get up at 6 AM! So, imagine our hosts surprise when at 8:30, we were still sleeping!
That driving rain of Tuesday took more out of us than we expected.
So, it was a slow moving start today. We were out of the house by noon. In the rain, on the subway and downtown! Prague has this amazingly deep underground system. When S2 and I were here over 20 years ago (and more recently married) we deemed the underground a very romantic place due to the length of the escalator rides. They offer a perfect height equalizer to our disproportionate heights, making for a great place to kiss as one passes the time on such lengthy escalator rides (a practice I am happy to say our son has also adopted).
Our first stop was a shopping mall that probably makes Stalin and any long dead Czech communist roll over in their graves (5 levels of pure capitalism). It allowed us to buy the iPad/iPod charger we left at home, and a new radio adaptor to allow us to listen to the many audiobooks and music we've downloaded for this EPIC road trip.
We stumbled upon a great little tourist market that offered lovely pastries and potato chips for those people who took a long time to get started on the day's activities.
NS, Bea and I headed for the castle. The rain continued and NS went back to the apartment (yes, on her own) while Bea and I wandered the exhibitions - Baroque in Bohemia, a collection of impressive Czech artists (National Gallery stuff) and Japonismus in Czech art (who would have thought the the Czechs and the Japanese have a long history of artistic influence on each other????)
Babette the cat and owner of the apartment! That driving rain of Tuesday took more out of us than we expected.
